Comments: We were stationed at Sembach in the mid 50's; I went to first and second grade at the base elementary school. We returned to the States in 1958. Although I was very young, I have very fond memories of that time. My father was MSgt. Paul A. Fleming; he passed away in 1959. My Mom was named Helen, she passed away this past January. Also have an older brother named Joe. Some of the things I remember vividly: apple strudel made by our housekeeper Anna Lisa...when they painted all the base housing in pastel colors....snow banks taller than me....and the bogey man we neighborhood kids made up called Slewfoot!! Does anyone remember an orange-flavored soft drink called Sunokol or Sunoko? I still dream about it but have never been able to find it. Wow, this sure is stirring up the old memory banks, so glad I found this page!

Comments: I just found this page today...wow, what memories. I may have been just a little kid when i lived there, but Sembach was a huge part of my life. Comments: Ever since I Left Sembach nothing felt like home... and no one else I knew understood what I meant... Since maybe 1998 I have been trying hopelessly to find some of my closest friends, my friends from Sembach. Growing up military it is no shock that I would find my way back to the military some day at least via marriage. Unfortunately I married a sailor... But it's all gravy... I am planning next christmas to go back to germany for no other reasons but to be home for once in a very long time. I guess that is pretty much it... except thanks to my dad former tsgt. James L. Comments: doesn't take much to have it all just come flooding back does it? the AYA, the football field, the "maids room", walking in the dark basement at night to take the trash to the dumpster (now that was scary!) going sledding from sun up to sun down, mt. whitey!, the three bump hill that we sledded down by the building we lived in, and the first bump was about as steep as a 90 degree angle, and usually icey! walking to the school in the snow praying you wouldn't be late, sneaking off base to go to the gasthouse, the dances at the aya, fussball, pool, going on vacation to france, spain, the ski trip to the alps with the school, trying to learn how to grab on the bar so that it would pull you up the hill, frankensteins castle-playing hide and seek and chase through it, the boat ride down the rhine, oktoberfest, the train ride to it......man so much more than the "other people" would even dream of! hope this brings back memories to those that were there with me! would like to hear from you. This was my first base and I went back there to see it since it closed and the flightline looked bad. I have a little boy now, he's already three, it's so exciting -he starts school in August, and boy does he have a lot to say-. I still live in Guam...it's nothing like Germany, but it's home. We have visited Sembach several times over the years when we were living back in Germany. We had a special dinner at the "Eidel" Gasthaus in Einseidlerhof this past December. I came across this site because my grandma gave my dad a book she picked up from Goodwill (I think) and he found an Academic Excellence Award presented to an "Al Tanner" for excelling in Multi-Ethnic Studies. Principal Dr. Olan L. Knight is written on it along with the name Martinez stamped on the line marked "Leader." There is no date marked on this award, but it would be interesting to know how old it is and how it got to Ohio!

We made the best friends, went to the best schools, and, in general, "saw the world". I will forever be affected by my time in Germany as part of the overseas effort. I may have been "dragged" over by my father's work, but it was still the best possible way to spend my high school years. My childred are envious of my travels, and sometimes it seems as if I lived a charmed life in "childhood". ...and the U.S. could use a few "max nix" posts to mark the roads of life. Be Well

Comments: Throughout the years I have often wondered if I was just crazy or a sentimental fool. The memories of living in Germany have haunted me for over twenty years. I am relieved to know that everyone who had the opportunity to live over there, feels the same way. Once you move back to the "states," and after you graduate and start raising a family, it suddenly hits you. You know what I am talking about; the memories of friendships, lost loves, AYA, the new school. How many of you remember the skateboard ramp "half pipe" that we built over by the tennis courts. Pops was a Security Police. Sorry don't remember anyone. I did go back to visit Sembach in 2001; prior to 9/11. Although I was not military, I had NO problem getting on. It was certainly an out of body experience driving around looking at places I got in trouble at. Lived next to the beauty shop at the "y' intersection. What really struck me was how small Sembach is. I just tripped over a 9th grade P.E photo....we were cute(from 78-79), a kissing license (nice, try explaining that to our kids), and our "Sembach Junior High Lights news paper, and what a hoot. Comments: Hey everyone! I think that it is about time that we put together a "Brats" reunion. Based on all of the comments that I read, the Sembach Brats seem to maintain such a closeness and a sharing of memories that we need to get together. Many of us didn't have the experience of going to H.S. together. After all, we went to Jr. High in a converted Military Barracks until we got a new school. We had our own....so to speak. The AYA and "All Area Dances" were things that we looked so forward to. Going to the base gym to watch the mens and women's teams, watching the men's football and baseball games, not to mention the Raiders, Falcons and Packers games, there was also the Jr. & Sr. Tigers, those are the memories that stay with me. I would love to see my old friends and relive those memories. We are all spread throughout the world living our own lives, but we share memories. Let's get together.
