What's New
What's New: April 9, 2005 Well, I created a Yahoo Group to complement this web page. This was mostly to take some of the pressure off me for getting comments posted. It will allow threaded messages, chat, photos, etc. and should prove to be a lot more interactive that this page. Check it out at:
Feel free to use the page as you see fit. I have not put any restrictions on who can join or add content to the page. I will moderate but only to keep the riff raff and the spam out. Enjoy and let me know what you think! December 30, 2004 Well, another year has clicked by on the old Sembach Brats page and we're still pluggin' and chuggin' along. Comments continue to trickle in and I continue to post them on a semi-regular basis. We'll be entering our 10th year on the web this year. That's pretty amazing given that the web itself isn't much older than that. This has been fun so far and, as of now, there's no end in sight. So far I've sold 12 shirts on the CafePress shop. Not bad, but not real good either. I won't see a check from them until I reach $25 so I still have about 13 more shirts to sell until I get there. Please write me and let me know whether you like the designs or not. I'm no artist, that's for sure! Hits to the page keep coming. Here's the graph for the second half of 2004.
Take care and have a great 2005! July 9, 2004 To date, no one has purchased anything from my snazzy new CafePress shop but me. Maybe I overestimated people's interest in gear. Or maybe nobody has seen it yet. Who knows. I don't plan on taking it down anytime soon and will add stuff to it as my time and creativity allow. I have the final January - June stats for the home page. Keep in mind that this data only reflects visitors to the main page. So anyone who has bookmarked the comments page and doesn't visit the main page isn't counted. It appears that there is an upward trend since March when I changed servers and lost my link from Compass Net.
As of today, the visit counter for July is already at 146 so we could be on track for a good month. June 27, 2004 I've created an online shop at CafePress to sell Sembach related stuff. I'll be adding items as time and my creativity allow. The first one is a white t-shirt that I'm sure you will recognise. Feedback is appreciated. Proceeds from any sales will go to offsetting the cost of maintaining this website. Check it out and tell me what you think.
June 25, 2004
Where the heck is everyone? The influx of comments has virtually ceased since the old server went down. I guess a week or two off
I still haven't decided what to do with the email directory. I may declare amnesty on myself, discard all of the unposted inputs that I've collected, and vow to post all new ones received from a given day forward. That would be the easiest for me anyway. I'm still looking for a better way to do it, however. Any and all ideas will be considered.
April 14, 2004
The forms processor is back online. I have updated the comment form and it is up and running. The email form is still down but I'll get to that over the next week or so. Until then submit your comments and I'll get them up as soon as I can. Oh, and by the way, we've moved again. Hopefully you haven't noticed any difference but if you have please drop me a note and let me know what it is.
April 6, 2004
I have addressed the problem with the forms processing and - we're moving again! This time, however, it should be transparent to you. I have signed up with a real web hosting service that offers lots of space, virtual domains, and cgi scripting. I am starting to move files and fix scripts and should have the page back in working order in a week or so. The site url will not change so the switch shouldn't be noticed except that the forms processing will work again. I'm also thinking of adding some other stuff but you'll have to wait and see what that is. Thanks to everyone for your patience.
March 26, 2004
Well, it seems that compassnet has finally wiped out my old accounts and my freeloading days are over. What this means is that the cgi scripts that process the forms for email and comments are not working for the time being. I am working on a solution to this and will have it up soon. Patience.
January 25, 2004
I'm thinking about doing away with the email directory completely. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Drop me note if you have strong feelings one way or another. -Glenn
January 24, 2004
Well, the site is moved, the old site is gone (mostly) and here we are in the 21st century. I have updated the comments pages with all of the comments that I could find. If you submitted one and don't see it, submit again. There are hundreds of emails still to do and that is going to take a while longer. If anyone has any ideas about how I can automate the email directory, let me know. The search page now links to Google search, which is good. What's bad is that Google hasn't indexed the new site yet so it doesn't work yet. Patience.
To everyone who sent words of encouragement to me over the last two years, thank you. To everyone, sorry for the hiatus. I can't promise that it won't happen again, but for now I'm back on it. -Glenn
January 23, 2004
Hey look at me! I moved the website. How about that? Ok, the story is that it is here and will be here from now on. It doesn't quite work yet but I'm working on it. I'll keep you posted. -Glenn

Time really flies when you’re having fun, huh? Well, here it is a year later and what has happened here? Nothing. You probably noticed that already. Actually, one thing of interest has happened - I finally re-registered sembachbrats.com and actually have it hosted now. It isn’t really working yet since all I did was move these pages over, but it's a start anyway. I have a few hurtles to clear still with regard to how to do cgi and get the forms working again. The compassnet.com address will die soon and until it does, the forms will work. The new server doesn’t allow cgi (hey, what do you want for $15/year?). I'm trying to use my earthlink free web space to do cgi but its real limited in what it offers and doesn't allow custom scripts. All of mine are heavily customized perl scripts and require some interaction with the server to work properly. I'm thinking about it and working on it as time allows.
To all of you who have submitted emails and comments since this site was last updated, do not fret. I have everything - I think. I have actually begun sorting through the email addresses and will attempt to do some kind of update on www.sembachbrats.com sometime soon. The comments are actually easier and I’ll do those too soon. As much as I was ready to just let this site die, I found that I just couldn't - yet.

I've received several notes from folks already regarding the status of the page. Keep those emails coming! I have looked into using Earthlink (my new ISP and broadband provider) to host both the domain name and the web site. It will cost me a little more out-of-pocket then it does now, but it should be easier to administer and maintain. If they'll allow me to use my own perl scripts and work in the shell then I'm pretty much sold. If not then I'll keep looking. Anyone have any suggestions about who I might look at for web hosting? Email me.
By the way, the answer to the riddle is: Cowardice. Hope ya'll aren't French :)
January 30, 2003 !!
By now you’ve probably realized that I haven't updated this site in
quite a while. There are several uninteresting reasons for this but
suffice it to say that time is a commodity that I have very little of anymore.
I am still interested in keeping this page going however, and to that end,
I have saved all of the comments and emails that have been submitted since
the last update. I don't yet know when, how, or in what form these
pages will take in the future but I am going to make the effort to do something
positive with them soon.
To all of you have sent personnel emails to me regarding the status
of the page, I got them all but replied to few. This should not be
taken personally as I simply had nothing to say and had made no decisions. I do thank all of you for your interest.
A couple of things will certainly change in the future. I will
no longer be hosting these pages on Compass Net after my recent subscriptions
expires (don't know exactly when). There is no animosity between
Compass Net and me, it's just that I've gone broadband and they can't help
me with that. I do own the domain name www.sembachbrats.com, and
although not currently active, future editions of these pages will live
there. My new email address is bzcam@earthlink.net
All future emails should be sent there.
If you have any ideas or recommendations on how to move this site into
the future while minimizing the amount of time I have to spend attending
to it, let me know. If your upset, po'ed, or otherwise predisposed
to vent about me or this page, go ahead and email me and I will, from now
on, answer every email that's sent.
More soon.
BTW, what’s the difference between French Vanilla ice cream and regular
vanilla ice cream?

I know, where am I, and what is going on with this web page? I know
that the last time I updated the directories and messages was October.
I have done nothing else with the page since then, but I have an excuse.
My company assigned me to work on a four-month project in Florida that
started on October the 8th. I manage to get home for a long weekend about
every two weeks; otherwise I'm in a windowless room, slaving away 10 hours
a day 6+ days a week. I'm not real happy about it. I plan on doing my best
to get everything updated while I'm home for Christmas. Since my last update
I attended the K-Town Class of 77 reunion in Dallas and had a blast. I
hooked up with several Sembachers and we talked about the good ole days
all weekend. There were lots of people there that I remembered and many
that I did not, but it didn’t keep us from having a good. The dinner at
the German restaurant on the last night was the icing on the cake. Laura
Lake-Dieterich did a fantastic job of organizing and executing the event
and for this she has my eternal thanks. I'm looking forward to the 25th
Reunion in Maryland next summer. Butch, if you're out there, send me your
email address. Missed you Jo, maybe next year. Donna, it was great seeing
you again and I will put that picture on the page when I get it.
May 9, 2001
Well I sent my money in and got confirmation back from the K-Town Class of '77 Reunion. I guess I'm really going at this point. So far, the only people that I know who are confirmed are Gary Tweedy, Donna Delaney Cagle, and Joni Plank Siplon (is it Jo anymore?). It seems a little weird that the reunion is in Dallas (where in July, its not the heat that gets you, its the heat), but I guess having it in Kaiserslautern would be a tad bit expensive for most people. Laura Lake-Dieterich has earned high praise in my book for setting this whole thing up. I'm pretty sure that I do not know Laura, but maybe with some coaxing or old stories some memory of her will pop into my mind. All I need now are hotel reservations and a commitment from my
employer that I won't have to work that Friday and I'm on my way.
As for the page, it seems to be limping along mostly up to date these days. I have received a few photos lately and will put them up at some point. I noticed that the Sembach Airbase external web page
has a new crop of photos that are quite good. Since I was there in the mid-seventies I've noticed a few changes. I don't know what the MOMS is, the bowling alley doesn't look like the same one that we used hang out at, the fitness center is the same but we used to call it the gym, the sample housing unit looks like the building that Butch Hill used to live in, only different, the dorms were barracks, the community bank was AMEXCO, and the Combined Club wasn't. And then there's the commissary. I have the biggest issue with the dang commissary. For those old timers who remember, the current commissary is built on the old Sembach Tiger baseball field - my field of dreams. I threw more pitches, got more hits, stole more bases, and had more fun playing baseball there than anywhere else, ever, combined. I only hope that when today's grocery shoppers amble their carts over what used to be home plate or the pitcher's mound they unexpectedly think about peanuts or Cracker Jack.
Perhaps there will be some reunion photos here when I get back from Dallas. Perhaps not. If you have photos please send them to me. Everybody likes pictures. Right?
April 8, 2001
Finally got around to updating the email directories. Sorry for the delay. Every day the queue of emails grew along with my anxiety. Just a reminder; check the last update date at the bottom of the email page, if you submitted your email after that date then its in the queue - no need to resubmit.
By the way, check out the reunion page for info about the K-Town Class of '77 reunion (if applicable). I never thought that I'd see the day....
October 11, 2000
Well, the new page is up and running. Hopefully visitors such as yourself will help me debug it. I've already noticed that the cgi generated pages for the search, email submission, and comment submission need updating. These are embedded in perl scripts and are more of a pain to update than the pages themselves. I'm working on them now. I use an old text editor to create and maintain the html pages. It does not have a spell checker associated with it. If you see a misspelled (sp?) word, let me know. Everything else seems to be ok. If you see anything that doesn't work or doesn't seem to be doing what you expect send me an email. Other than that, look around, use the search engine, check out the faq, and come back to this page often to see what's new. More later.....
October 8, 2000
Created the new logo graphic. In case you're wondering, the blue blob is Germany, the flags are that of the USA and Germany, and the star is over Sembach. Clever, huh? The symmetry (or lack there of) between the star and the flags bugs me a little. Maybe I'll change it to something else in the future.
October 2000
Working hard on the facelift for the page. Created some new graphics, fixed some link problems, added a few new pages, finally got the search engine running, and I'm a lot happier with the look and feel. Should go live during October. Hopefully visitors to the site will help me debug it - nothing is ever completely right the first time.
June 26, 2000
Purchased the domain name "www.sembachbrats.com". I am currently shopping around for an ISP to host it. When the switch occurs there will be plenty of notice and time for bookmark adjustments. I will leave a pointer on CompassNet for as long as I can afford it.
